After a childhood growing up in Kansas and Tennessee, Carla Ainsworth completed her undergraduate work at Kenyon College in Ohio and medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. She pursued additional training in public health at UC Berkeley, with a focus on maternal and child health, before moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2000. She completed residency training at Swedish/Providence and the geriatrics fellowship here at Swedish Family Medicine before joining a community health center practice in central Seattle.
In 2007, she joined the faculty to combine full-spectrum practice with the opportunity to help train the next generation of family physicians. She became the medical director at the First Hill clinic in 2008. Her clinical interests include geriatrics, chronic disease care, and palliative medicine. Her academic interests include practice management, leadership, and advocacy work. When she's not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and being active, which usually involves playing with their two children, Quentin and Cassandra.
