Far from a Pacific Northwest native, Karl grew up in New Hampshire and completed undergrad at Bates College in Maine. After a brief stint as a wildlife biologist studying salmon and several years teaching high school science in Boston, he transitioned to jobs in public health, working in clinical epidemiology both in the US and Indonesia, before finding his passion in medicine and community health. He completed medical school at Dartmouth and his family medicine residency at Brown University. Karl joined the faculty in 2017, thrilled to join the outstanding residents and faculty at First Hill.
His clinical interests include addiction medicine, health equity, sports medicine and medical education. Outside of medicine, he enjoys all things outdoors, amateur baking challenges, resident basketball leagues, rooting for New England sports teams while living in Seattle, and exploring the Pacific Northwest.
